Law and order in Hong Kong(Candice)
The Hong Kong government struggled to maintain law and order. It not only establishes the equality law, but also arranged well-trained policemen to prevent and detect crime. According to the Basic Law, which provides constitutional protection for the rights and freedoms of Hong Kong's residents. There is no dead penalty for a convicted murderer in Hong Kong. The most serious situation is that they are sentenced to life imprisonment. Giving an opportunity for the inmates to understand their wrong is one of the corrections. Nobody can kill others. If people commit a petty crime which are not considerably serious than the former one, it is necessary for them to do the community services or send to jail for a short period of time. Residents must obey government’s rules and regulation. On the other hand, having an eight months training, Hong Kong policemen can cope with the problems and handle the crisis successfully.

Hi Candice,
ReplyDeleteWhen you mentioned punishments for petty crime, I remembered something that is used in some parts of the US - humiliation techniques, e.g. people wearing a huge sign saying "I stole money from this shop" and being forced to stand there all day. I think this is a great way.
Also, some schools use this technique... if the teenagers don't go to class, the school asks the parents to come into class and sit with them. ha ha.
Why isn't this used more often I wonder?
By the way, check your sentence "According to the basic law" - actually, there is no main subject or verb because you finished with a full stop.
According to basic law, which ....residents, there is no death penalty in HK.
