Dance at Moulin Rouge by Eric

Toulouse Lautrec is definitely one of my all-time favourites. He captured in his paintings the Parisian passion for the bohemian life pleasures during the nineteenth century. The vibrant colors, the composición of elements sourrounding an especific action may transport us back in time, it’s definetely my cup of tea!

Moreover, besides its aesthetic value when one looks at his work you can learn about the clothing, the Architecture, and how people celebrate life.

Particuraly in this painting "Dance at Moulin Rouge" i find very interesting how Lautrec represents the very moment when the dancer appears on stage. There is a permanent feeling of excitement masterly defined by the body gestures of the characters and the expectation from the audience. I'm really into his work.

The visual effect of colors have a powerful psicological effect in the whole concept (just have a little look at the man in red at rigth hand side) and nothing to tell about the great use of ligh and shadow to express the effect of images in motion.

  1. Hi Eric, I love Lautrec's paintings too. One thing I admired him most is that the characters in some of his works seemed to have a humble background, but he did pay attention to them and made them noticeble. He's fabulous, and you have a really good taste. Same do I. Hehe :) vic

  2. I think I made a mistake. It should be " So do I" instead of " Same do I. " ~ vic again
